New goodies!

Guess what?  I've recently got a few shipments of some new goodies in!  That means that as soon as I've got some time to create things, I'm going to have some new, unique pieces in the shop!  In the meantime, take a look at some pictures.

Lots of lovely vintage glass jewels of all shapes and colors...so excited about these.

Pink and black cathedral beads!! How fun are those? I've never worked with this style before so I'm excited to see what I come up with...

Keep checking back for new listings!

Lazy Sunday...

Happy Father's Day!

I have had quite a lazy weekend.  I debated all week whether to go to Austin's City-Wide Garage Sale on Saturday, but I ended up backing out last minute.  Austin is such a fun city, I'd rather plan a whole weekend trip around it, rather than driving 6 hours in one day (by myself).  So, I decided to go vintage shopping here in Houston instead.  Sadly, I didn't have much luck, but at least I saved money! Haha.

I spent the majority of the rest of the day staring at my computer screen.  I think I need to limit myself.  There was a 24-hour BNR going on and I just couldn't resist watching.  Since I am new to Etsy from a seller's perspective, I have only now just heard of BNRs and BNSs, and since I'm trying to gain some exposure for my shop, this 24-hour BNR really interested me.  I ended up buying in twice and making two sales, so it was exciting for me!

Today I'm going to try to take a short run after a week-long break (since my first 10k, which I need to do a post about soon!) and possibly wash the outside of our house.  Fun stuff!  Nothing more exciting to report for now.  Hope you all are enjoying your lazy Sundays!

My newest treasury is owl-themed, check it out here!

Plans for le blog....

Now that I've finally got "le blog", I have so many ideas for blog posts floating around in my head...I just don't have time to write about everything right away.  So, I'll make a list so yall can hold me accountable and know what to expect here!

Future posts will include...
  • What I'm working on for Lazy Owl Boutique, get excited!
  • New listings from the shop as they come along
  • Other Etsy shops I love (I find about 45 everyday, the supply is truly endless haha)
  • Etsy thoughts in general...
  • Obstacles and challenges of opening a new shop!
  • Challenges and adventures associated with buying our very own house!
  • DIY projects and crafty tales from around the house...
  • Mundane ramblings about having a day job in the corporate world (I'm an accountant, can it really get anymore exciting?)
  • Our current hometown, Houston! And of course documentation of any exciting travels...
  • More than plenty of ramblings about our dog, Leo
  • Diatribes on my friend and I's (that can't be proper grammar?) attempt to go from zero running stamina to a half-marathon by this October (that should be interesting)
  • And whatever else I feel like talking about!
And of course I'm always excited to hearing your thoughts, opinions, and comments!

Bird's nest jewelry

Ever since discovering Etsy, I have always loved, loved, loved and adored the look of wire-wrapped bird's nest jewelry.  I've bought some off Etsy in the past and always get compliments when I'm wearing them since the concept is so unique, especially to non-Etsians (haha).  The pieces have a classy feel because of the shiny silver wire (or whatever color wire may be used) and the pearl eggs, but also an earthy, natural feel since they are, of course, symbolizing birds' nests!

There are lots of people out there doing it, but I just couldn't resist trying it for myself.  After lots of practice, I created these earrings with adorable petite-sized silver birds' nests with pink glass pearls for eggs.  They were fun to make, and I can't wait til I have more time to expand my nesting jewelry pieces.  Let me know if you have any ideas! I'd love to hear them.

Check out the listing on Etsy here.

My new look!

I'm so excited to unveil Lazy Owl's new design!!  All thanks goes to Trendy Girl Designs, check her out on Etsy!  She was super awesome to work with, and now I can't wait to really get started on my blog now that I have a new, unique theme!  I'm also going to have my very own business cards! How legit is that?

A new beginning....

Hello all! Welcome to my very first blog post for Lazy Owl Boutique.

I envision this blog to be about many things.  Of course, I'll be using it as a marketing tool for my new etsy shop, Lazy Owl Boutique, but I'd like to make it a little more personal than that.  I'll also talk about my newly rediscovered love of crafting and the challenges I face in that regard.

I'm going through many changes at the moment.  I'm an accountant, so part of me is very, very right-brained.  I'm a fan of order and routine...but I also feel like I've always had a creative spark that I enjoy pursuing.  Unfortunately, after years of school and now two years of the real adult world, my creative spark has died down to a mere flicker.

In December, my husband and I bought our very first house.  I began devouring decorating books for ideas and inspiration (this is what right-brained people do, we always read books first before taking action).  Having a whole house as my new big creative outlet really got the ball rolling for me.  I realized how much I missed using my left brain, being creative, thinking outside the box, working with colors and objects and my hands, and taking chances!

I knew I needed a change, I just didn't know how to make it.  I worked in a very demanding and time-consuming position in public accounting.  By the time I came home (usually late) and on the weekends (if I wasn't working), I didn't have the energy to devote to any new creative passions.  So, after a lot of thinking, I decided I needed to 1) quit my job, and 2) come up with some new hobbies (other than sleeping or complaining).

One thing led to another, and viola!  The creation of Lazy Owl Boutique.  I have really enjoyed (after lots of book reading, of course) crafting handmade jewelry and launching my shop online.  I have always loved Etsy, and now experiencing it from the other side has been an adventure.

My second hobby I came up with is slightly less enjoyable.  In an effort to get in shape, I decided to sign up for Disney's Food & Wine half-marathon on October 1.  So, I guess you could say training for that has been my second new hobby.

I also quit my job, yay!  I now work as an accountant (still right-braining it!) for one of Houston's top hospitals.  I just finished my first week on the job.

So...you can see I have a lot of new things going on right now.  I hope to use this blog to journal all these new experiences and keep you all updated!  I hope you enjoy being a part of my new journey!
